It’s officially the fall season and it’s a great time to start planning your Halloween decorating. I teamed up with Christmas Tree Shops to start plotting out our spooktacular decor.
We start with autumnal decorating mid September and usually don’t put out our spooky stuff until the week of Halloween. With that in mind, we add a few things to our Halloween decorating every season and now is the perfect time to get those festive finds in stores now.
Here’s our take on a spooky bookcase with affordable finds from Christmas Tree Shops. I can’t wait to recreate this Halloween week!
Styling up our Halloween Bookcase
Book Placement. I started with selecting books and placing them on our shelves. I left plenty of open space for spooky pieces to fit in. I stayed in the black, gray, white, and pops of orange family for book bindings. A tip is to turn the books backwards so the paper side shows if bindings don’t fit your color scheme.
Larger Pieces First. When adding in your decor, I like to start with larger pieces and then layer in the small items. I used pumpkins as my base larger pieces and cloches. I found those skeleton hands and spiders in store and they are great cloche fillers. Also, I arranged the skeleton hands coming under and around the pumpkins for a little extra creepy fun.
Medium Pieces Next. I wanted some apothecary jars and CTS had a great collection of them. The larger lidded jars are great for your next layer on your shelves. With fun labels like Toad Tongues, Spider Legs, Hobgoblin Brains, and Pickled Eyeballs you’d think a witch is nearby! The smaller cork top apothecary jars work great to sprinkle into your display. Another great addition are those black crow figurines from CTS. Their wire feet make them easy to attach to the tops of the pumpkins. They also had skull vases and candle holders and I added one to our display and filled it with spiders.
Smaller Pieces and Trinkets. Our spooky shelves wouldn’t be complete without some cobwebs and spiders. CTS has a different varieties of packs of miniature spiders and I opted for the little velvet ones to add to the shelves and for cloche filler. I mixed in oddities we had like horns, lobster claws, and broken candles.
Create a lightening effect. CTS has battery-operated strobe lights in stock now. For a creepy night time effect, I am going to place these on our Halloween displays. They have controls for still and slow to fast strobe effects. You can see a reel of this on my Instagram too. I like to use these on our outdoor displays with our fog machine Halloween night.
Pumpkin Carving Night Finds
Table covers. As a family, we pick a colder night a few days before Halloween to carve our pumpkins by the fire. CTS has an array of fall vinyl table covers and I use these on our coffee table so we can all sit around the fire and carve up our pumpkins every Halloween.
Chili Night. Carving night and Halloween night, I make a big pot of chili for everyone. These cute Snoopy Halloween mugs are the perfect size for chili servings. CTS has these and A Nightmare Before Christmas themed mugs in stores now.
Festive Halloween Extras
Mom’s Morning Cup. My morning sip this Halloween season will be out of this Halloween Mug. CTS has an array of coffee mugs to choose from to add some Halloween whimsy to your morning sip.
Witchy Decor. A cinnamon scented broom is always a fun addition this time of year. CTS has plenty of cinnamon brooms and fall potpourri bundles to choose from right now.
Halloween Glow. Another fun find are these battery-operated Jack-o-lantern candles. When we decorate around the house Halloween week, these will be fun to work into our decorating.
