Coastal Wallpaper in Our Upstairs Hallway

Spring and summer is such a great time with our current schedules to do some remodeling projects. We’ve had time to work on some home projects lately, and I wanted to share the progress on the upstairs hallway.

We installed this beautiful chambray stripe grasscloth wallpaper from Cailini Coastal in our hallway upstairs. I loved the idea of the playing with the stripes on the different pitches of the walls. This space was perfect for installing this paper. I wanted a coastal striped wallpaper in our home and fell hard for this one. Even though I have a lot left to do, just seeing this wallpaper installed is making me smile.

I like sharing these in-progress updates, because it gives you a sense of how its all taking shape before the final beauty shots. Here’s some photos of the space, and what I’ll be doing to finish it up…

next…lighting

The existing light fixture came with the house, but I’m going to update it with a brass nautical fixture. Since the ceilings upstairs are low, I’m looking at some flush mount options.

Painting & a gallery wall…

The bare wall in the stairwell is where I am going to install a photo gallery of my photography. I’m so excited to work on that. I’m going to conceal the house fan dials with a hinged frame, since they are an eyesore, but we still need them accessible.

Also, I have to paint all the doors, trim, and our house fan white. Originally, we were going to get rid of the house fan, but we actually love using it when its too cool for air conditioning. It’s wonderful for days you want a nice cool in the home with the windows open.

Furnishings…

Lastly, I will be sourcing for a new stair runner, a hallway runner, furniture, and decor.

MIRROR

I am going to be on the lookout for a large mirror to hang on the wall the luggage rack is on right now. I love to use mirrors to make spaces seem larger.

FURNITURE

I’m on the hunt for some furniture to fill out where my old console table is sitting right now. We kicked around building a window seat with storage underneath, but I think I’m leaning towards a console table and lamps.

ANTIQUES & HAT RACK

The other side of the hallway I’m going to add some minimal things. I don’t want to clutter it up too much. I think once the stair runner and hall runner is installed it won’t need much. I’d love a little fisherman portrait on the right side. Kicking around hanging my hat rack here too. Maybe…

DOOR KNOBS

We were fortunate that a lot of this colonial’s original brass door knobs were in great shape. I’m going to try to find some that compliment them on the doors that the previous owner replaced with cheap knobs.

That’s my little home update for today. What do you think of the wallpaper? I am smitten with it, and happy I jumped on it before it was discontinued. The navy colorway is still available marked down. I almost went with the navy, but this lighter blue won.
