Foxhill House Renovation Update no. 001

This July, the renovation has begun on the first floor of our home, Foxhill House. There’s a lot to address with this fixer upper, and it’s nice to finally be at the point where we are starting the interiors. Good homes take time, and I’m not rushing this one.

This year, we are starting the first floor renovations including our entryway, staircase, living room, dining room, powder room, kitchen and breakfast nook.

I have a lot of inspiration from our Nantucket summers and I’m creating a cohesive design for our home. It’s filled with coastal touches, plenty of traditional design, a mix of old and new, and designer details. Here’s the direction I’m going in the living room, entry way, hall, and staircase:

Entryway & Hall

This week, the beautiful Nantucket print wallpaper from Cailini Coastal was installed in the entryway and hallway. Here’s some progress photos.

I selected some storage solutions for our entry way including this really charming wall rack from Ballard Designs. I’m going to source a rug when I get back from Nantucket later this month.

Staircase

The shiplap and trim was delivered today from Home Depot for our staircase and hallway and we brought some indoors so it can acclimate before it’s painted and installed. We are tackling this after our vacation. We stayed in a cottage recently that had shiplap in the main rooms and it mixed so well with the higher end nautical and traditional pieces in the home. Topher and I wanted to add a dose of that to our home and have it unify the design so it will carry through from the staircase to the upstairs hallway, and eventually to the addition.

Today, I’m also patching, sanding, and painting the stairwell. I’m keeping it bright with a couple of coats of Benjamin Moore Simply White. I still need to go into my local flooring supplier and select a new runner for the stairs. I’ll just have to get to that when we get back home.

Living Room

The window treatments for the living room arrived from Pepper Home and I just love them! I hung one panel just to check to make sure my measurements were right and we are good! Can’t wait to see this room all finished soon.

Decor and furniture are starting to arrive for our living room and I love this rattan bistro bar cart from Mark & Graham. Perfect coastal vibes.

The signal flag artwork and painting are from Cailini Coastal. I’m leaving them wrapped up until we can install them.

Up Next

I’ve been sourcing some pillows for the living room and we are deciding on the chairs for that space this month too. We are stuck between two chair options and we’ll decide after vacation time. I’m loving the designer pillow options from Arianna Belle and I think this is the combination I want to go with for our sofa.

The staircase gets her makeover next with a new runner and the coastal shiplap on the walls around the staircase. I’m also deciding on photographs to frame for it, but will do that after we get back too.

I’ll share more soon! This week, I’ve been making selections for the dining room and powder room. My head has been wrapped up in that since those are the next two spaces we are working on while the kitchen planning begins.
