The Grounds
Shelter Harbor Inn has a country estate vibe set back in the Shelter Harbor neighborhood in Westerly, Rhode Island. The 3 buildings that comprise the inn are all next to one another on the property with walking paths and plenty of parking for guests. The neighborhood is peaceful and has some lovely homes and you can bike out to the nearby dock. The grounds are lovely and charming with plenty of places to lounge outdoors like reading a book in a hammock or sipping lemonade in the shade. Bikes are available for guests to use during their stay. It’s a short 10 minute drive to Watch Hill or Downtown Westerly.
Our Accommodations & Inside the Inn
We stayed in a lovely room with an eclectic and fun vibe. Our room was in the gray building on the property and had a communal sitting area and deck. The other guest room across from the common room could be booked and would make a great escape for a family or a friends/couples getaway. You’d have the whole upper level of the building to yourself. Our room was spacious and had a king bed, lovely bath, sitting area, fridge, TV, WiFi, and patio deck.
Inside the Main Inn, the interiors are cozy and full of eclectic charm. A mix of traditional country-esque living and a collection of travels around the world with quirky touches to spy like cassette tapes in a clam shell bowl. The on-site restaurant, Farmhouse Kitchen + Bar is in the main inn building and has a great seasonal farm to table menu. Also, the restaurant is where you will enjoy your complimentary continental breakfast each morning of your stay.
Private Beach Access & Hotel Shuttle
Guests of the inn have complimentary beach shuttle service to a beautiful private beach close by in Weekapaug complete with beach chairs and towels upon request. This white sand beach was gorgeous and we loved this added perk of staying at Shelter Harbor. We felt like we had this gorgeous beach to ourselves most of the morning. We enjoyed this perk a couple of times during our stay. First, for a beach picnic and the next day for a little sunbathing and beach strolling.
Area Attractions
The Watch Hill Westerly region is as idyllic as summer in New England gets with its beautiful beaches—in my opinion— some of the most beautiful in New England. There is great shopping to be had in ever so charming Watch Hill and check out more stores in nearby historic downtown Westerly. My favorite Lilly Pulitzer store is in Watch Hill and I can’t resist a breakfast or lunch from Sift Bakery. The Ocean House makes for a fun stop and it’s the place to grab a cocktail or meal outside overlooking the water. If you have little ones, a few laps on the historic Watch Hill carousel is always a fun addition to your trip.
We loved our summer stay here at The Shelter Harbor Inn. The staff were warm and welcoming, the dining at their restaurant, Farmhouse Kitchen, was delicious, and our accommodations were well-appointed with fun interiors. Extra guest perks made this a winner with complimentary shuttle service to a gorgeous private beach and bicycles to use during your stay. This inn offers pet-friendly rooms if you want to travel with your pup. You can’t beat the location either, just a short 10 minute drive to Watch Hill!
