Happy Friday! April is just rolling along, isn’t it? I’ve been busy behind the scenes here, getting some really great spring and summer things finalized that I can’t wait to share with you. I had such a slow winter and spring due to life happening, but I am thrilled to be getting back to my normal workload.

This spring and summer, I have some exciting things launching, and it’s our 5 year anniversary for Kristy & New England come June. So, be sure to watch out for some great celebration giveaways.

Other than that, I’m looking forward to the nice weather showing up. It’s been a time, ha-ha!

Here’s what caught my eye and my thoughts this week…

these needlepoint & hook pillows…

These needlepoint and hook pillows are so tongue in cheek fun. There are so many new ones with fun pop culture references and sayings to choose from. Such a fun gift idea for the Mom or grad who love a little whimsical exaggeration in their lives.

romanticizing life…

As a self-confessed recovering perfectionist, I think I’ve finally gotten to the point where I love the imperfect. It took me years to embrace this, but last night I was looking around our living room after we had all settled in to relax–I just loved it. Our son was reading, my husband was watching the television, and I was knee-deep in some design books. It was that time of night with only a few minutes left before bedtime. The dim lamp lighting felt so soft and warm. The pillows were a mess on the sofas, the coffee table was speckled with life, Zoey was a mess of fur, and I just thought how beautiful. Everything looked so lived-in and happy. I found myself grateful and smiling at the simplicity of a night-in together. I felt that this room was more lovely in this state than when its perfectly put together.

I’ve been feeling this a lot lately. That feeling of contentment that comes with life’s simple beauty. I want to bring this more into my sharing here, just because its speaking to me so much lately.

I think that’s why I’ve always been drawn to artists like Ralph Lauren or the set design in a Nancy Meyers movie. I have a lifelong fascination and admiration for the world Lauren has created. I love the clothes-always have, always will. I was perusing one of his books last night, and even though its production with models and all, I love that lived-in feeling of some of his earlier coastal shoots. Rumpled clothing from being on the beach, hair not so perfect, jeans that have been loved and worn a million times. He definitely sold the lifestyle of ease mixed with living well. Don’t get me wrong, I love the big production luxury too, but that laid back luxury is what I feel we have fallen into in our home routines, and in our travels these past few years.

The same goes for Nancy sets. You can see a dent on the fridge in the kitchen in It’s Complicated. Mixed-matched dishes and things all over the counter…but it looks fantastic! Most of her interior set designs offer this really lived and loved feel to home. There’s a magic there, a personality, a character beyond the room. It’s that feeling of warmth and contentment.

It’s fun to see the younger generation embrace Lauren, whether it’s the fisherman aesthetic, experimenting with prep, or the coastal granddaughter trend. I love that women in their 20’s and 30’s are garnering an affinity for a good Nancy Meyers movie. That makes me smile.

I have always been a believer that you can make your home beautiful, yet make it a place you want to gather and be. It can’t be too perfect or that comfort is lost. Bunny Williams had an interview on T&C, and I loved her perspective too. When they didn’t have money to furnish their Connecticut home, it took them years of collecting to get it furnished. I’ve always said good homes take time. I think I believe that motto more than ever these days.

I don’t why I’m sharing that, it just struck me last night in the moment. These weekend blogs are less about my photography and styling, and more a behind the lens, in the moment type of endeavor. I’m not a big dump my purse or over-sharing type, so I promise there won’t be a lot of “Dear Diary” posts, but I just felt compelled to share this today.

spring beach walks…

Any chance we get a nice spring day we have been at the beach lately. There haven’t been too many, but we’ve been taking full advantage of them when we do get them. It’s been so nice to slow down and just spend that hour after work and between dinner, collecting shells and catching up on our day.
