July means vacation in our household. To kickoff our vacation season, we are heading to our favorite summer place, Nantucket. I’m sharing some new things I’m packing in my suitcase for this trip.

My tips for packing for Nantucket always include layers and neutral coastal hues. Think relaxed summer dresses, white jeans, striped sweaters, lots of navy, light blue, white, and sand tones.

I pack really laid back for most days, and include a couple of nice dresses for dinners out.

Also, I always pack things for rainy days. A rain jacket (I love my Helly Hansen navy stripe rain jacket, similar here), and waterproof shoes (I just wear my Sebago boat shoes).

We all pack plenty of swimwear and activewear. We do a lot of beach days, biking, tennis, and walking when we are on island time. We often do a boat cruise or sail too, so I pack a Saint James Breton shirt, sometimes a long skirt, and sweater cardigan if it gets cooler in the evening. These coastal sweater cardigans are my favorite this year.

Another must is a sun hat and I love this Peter Beaton one. Ralph Lauren button downs are great to pack, and I wear them on cooler days with white jeans or as a beach cover-up.

For shoes, I avoid heels since there is so much cobblestone and brick with the exception of a pair of espadrilles. A good sneaker, sandals for the beach and dresses, a cute mesh ballet flat for walking in town, and a boat shoe is usually my go-to line-up for footwear.

For bags, I love a cute wicker clutch for dinners, my Nantucket lightship basket, a good beach tote, and a good shopping tote. Sometimes something to carry onto the boat like this waterproof tote.
