We are enjoying the renovation of one of our secondary bathrooms here at Foxhill House. This is the first of three bathrooms in our renovation plans, and I love how it turned out. I wanted a classic marble and subway tile bathroom with a nod to the sea.
When I was on Cape Cod this summer, I found an 1800’s Delft tile in an antique shop, and it sparked an idea. I thought this to be my nod to the sea I was looking for, and worked it into our shower design. I added in some blue and white details through the decor to bring it together. I love how it flows with the rest of our home.
I’m still hunting for the right art to hang in here, and I’m awaiting some new hardware for the door and vanity, but this space is pretty much done. I’ll share a source list for you, and discuss the decisions we made while working on this room.

The Vanity
We took this bathroom down to the studs. It originally had a pedestal sink, and lacked countertop space and storage. I was able to fit a 48-inch vanity in here, and it addressed those needs.
For the faucet, I went with my favorite line from Kohler. The Kohler Artifacts Collection is perfect for traditional spaces. I selected vibrant polished nickel for all the fixtures. I always use Kohler for our fixtures, the quality and finishes are just the best.
The mirror and sconces are also in polished nickel. The angled pitch of the wall made mirror selections tricky, so I opted for a pivot mirror that bumps out from the wall. This way I could fit a slightly bigger mirror here. The sconces I found at Ballard Designs, and use warm white bulbs. We did add overheard lighting in here too. The sconces cast a great light for getting ready in the morning.
Due to timing constraints and since this isn’t our primary bath, we decided to go with a pre-built vanity. This white vanity with nickel hardware has great drawer space and shelves underneath. It comes with the Carrara marble countertop and is solid wood construction with dovetail drawers.
A few finishing touches…These custom monogrammed hand towels were a great find on Etsy. For storage, I am using a shell box to hold hair accessories. These glass cloches are the perfect size for Q-tips and cotton rounds. I have had this blue and white planter for years, and added just added an orchid to have a touch of life in here.
All of our towel bars, hooks, and toilet paper holder are by Kohler in vibrant polished nickel.
The Shower
Originally, there was a combination tub & shower here, and we turned it into a walk-in shower. All the fixtures are from the Kohler Artifacts Collection in Vibrant Polished Nickel.
For the niche, I wanted a lot of shelving space and to center our Delft tile here. I love that it is just a little nod to the sea, and doesn’t take over and make everything too on theme. The touches of Carrara marble on the niche compliment the floors and countertop.
Instead of doing a bench, I liked the idea of a garden stool. It works really well here, and it brings in another pop of blue and white.
The Walls & Floors
We wanted to honor the time period of our home, so subway tile was the choice for the walls. I added the decorative pencil and chair rail tile to give it a little more detail.
The floors were a chance to add in a little more pattern and marble. I love marble herringbone tile and this was a great place to install it. The marble in the floors, countertop, and shower niche are nice contrast to the white subway tile.
All the tile came from our local Floor & Decor.
Window Covering
For the window covering, we needed privacy here, but I did want a shade that allowed light in still. Two Pages is a great source for custom shades. I selected a fabric with linen and chose the blue Greek key trim tape from their options.

One bath down, 2 more to go! If you know anything about how I approach home design, you know I take my time. It’s a lot to live in the home you are renovating. We choose one or two bigger projects every year, and plan them for the summer when school isn’t in session and sports schedules aren’t as busy. Smaller projects I’ll do all year long, but when it comes time for contractors and crews, I like to keep that to the summertime. We’ve done a lot so far, and next summer we are renovating our kitchen, which is the one I’ve secretly or not so secretly have been waiting for.
This week, I’m doing my fall haul here at Foxhill House. I can’t wait to share how I cozy up our home for the season with you. It’s my favorite time of the year.
