Fall is a great time to visit Mystic and my favorite place to stay is The Whaler’s Inn. The Whaler’s Inn is a boutique hotel just steps from the bridge, great dining, and shopping downtown. It’s prime location and beautiful accommodations make it the perfect place to call home during your visit to Mystic.
The Morgan Suite
Recently, I enjoyed a visit and here’s an insider’s look at all The Whaler’s Inn has to offer. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon and checked into The Morgan Suite. I had a contactless check-in outside the lobby and wore my mask in common areas. The Morgan Suite is a luxury accommodation in the 1856 House that is located right next to the main inn.
The Morgan Suite is so well done. Upon entering the 1856 House, a hand sanitizing station is at the entrance for your use. I was so impressed with how sparkling clean and airy bright it was in each room. I loved this suite so much! I used that fireplace every day and night. It was so cozy to curl up with a nice drink there after being out and about. It’s a double-sided fireplace and relaxing to enjoy right before bed too.
The bathroom was well designed with a great shower and whirlpool tub. The vanity is fitted with double sinks and a large counter with plenty of drawer space. The floor is heated for you comfort.
Other amenities for this room include: plush robes, bath products, WiFi, Roku and all streaming services, a mini fridge, and a Keurig with coffee & tea.
The Shipwright’s Daughter
The evening of my first night here I enjoyed an amazing dinner at The Whaler Inn’s new restaurant, The Shipwright’s Daughter. You must try this dining experience next time you visit Mystic! I was impressed by the menu and each dish was full of flavor and creativity. It’s a blend of coastal meets around the world flavors—a real treat!
The Shipwright’s Daughter has beautiful bar, main dining room, and banquet area. If you prefer outdoor seating they do offer that weather permitting. The seasonal menu is fresh and inventive. They are quickly becoming known for their oysters and I do love those seafood staples, but I wanted to try some autumnal offerings.
The food is as good as it looks! I’m glad I ventured outside my usual scallops order and tried their more seasonal offerings. Everything was delicious!
Breakfast
The Continental Breakfast is included every morning of your stay or you can opt to order off their breakfast menu. Breakfast is hosted in the restaurant or you can take your order to go. I never ventured outside The Continental because it was so filling and good.
The Hotel Lobby
I love well designed interiors and the lobby at The Whaler’s Inn is a good one. There’s a sitting area with books and games with cozy sofas and chairs. Off to the other side of the check in desk is another sitting area with a fireplace to enjoy drinks while curled up in leather chairs.

Historic Downtown Mystic with plenty of shopping and great places to dine. Be sure to stop in Mystic Knotwork and do some shopping for your home and pets. I really enjoyed dining at to Red 36, Via Emilia, and my all-time favorite Sift Bake Shop! Sift has a new rooftop deck with water views called Mix at Sift complete with dining areas, a fire pit, lounging areas, and a full bar.

Fall Foliage Tours with Mystic River Cruises are offered everyday until early November. Captain Eric offers you two routes to choose from aboard his classic wooden boat. Bring a blanket and a few drinks and enjoy this 90 minute cruise and take in the history and views with Mystic River Cruises.

B.F. Clydes Cider Mill is open and has the oldest operating steam powered cider press in the United States. Clyde’s Cider Mill is tradition and fall just would not be complete without a cider donut and cider slushie. Last time we were there, they were loading apples into the press and the trees were full of gold leaves.

Whittle’s Willow Spring Farm & Pumpkin Patch is a darling 5th generation farm complete with a market and a picking patch. You will love the picturesque setting of Whittle’s Willow Spring Farm and their fresh produce and offerings in the market too.

Saltwater Vineyards offers a great variety of wine and the setting is so peaceful. Saltwater Farm Vineyard is a great place to unwind and enjoy some charcuterie as you enjoy a wine tasting. There is plenty of outdoor seating and strolling the farm (glass in hand 😉 out to the water is a nice way to enjoy the outdoors. Pets are welcome.

Mystic Seaport is always a great stop any time of the year. Step back in time and see what seaport village life was like back in the 19th century at Mystic Seaport. It’s always decorated festive for fall.
