I’ve always loved studying spaces that are so well done. I get so much inspiration from travel. When I get a chance to stay or play at an amazing place, undoubtedly, I am paying attention to the interiors. Every interior at the Ocean House was beautiful and well executed and the Tower Suite was one of my favorites.
Here’s a few design notes that I took away from this space…
Coastal Bedroom
-
A bold wall color works in the bedroom and can still be soothing when paired with neutrals and white accents. The coastal “sand and sea” combo always keeps things relaxing.
-
Bed curtains can be chic and unstuffy when done right. I love this and want to try it in my own bedroom.
-
A bordered bed skirt gives simple white bedding a little extra detail and interest.
Comfortable Furniture Elevated
-
A comfortable, cushy sofa can look like a million bucks with contrast piping.
-
A high end fabric pillow can elevate the look even more.
Warmth from Wood & Other Details
-
The warmth of wood works well in such a spectacular room as this. It highlights the amazing staircase and grandeur of the room, yet leaves it feeling inviting and cozy at the same time.
-
Pattern mixing in the same color family on furniture and pillows can add a playful punch.
-
Keeping the rugs light and neutral anchor the spaces and don’t compete.
-
You can never have too many coffee table books—EVER.
Window Seating
-
Window seats highlight the views of this room and provide more seating and the perfect little reading nooks.
-
A pillow with the name of your place or family name is a nice personal touch.
Create a Corner Reading Nook
-
An oversized lounge with a high end fabric is chic and comfortable.
-
Perfect when paired with a floor lamp for good light at night.
-
A Roman shade paired with a cornice is such a nice finishing touch.
Design for the Space and the Location
Final Thought—
I love to take the time to study a place and be thoughtful in the design and make sure it fits the age and surroundings. I try my best to execute this in my own home. I have a great appreciation for places that do this well. This space definitely suits its surroundings. The coastal blues and sand details are evident throughout. It feels grand yet comfortable and warm. It’s current yet timeless. All the feelings you would want staying at an amazing seaside resort.
The Ocean House is now open and accepting reservations once again. They’ve taken every COVID-19 safety precaution possible to ensure your peace of mind and comfort during your stay.
I loved my visit here and I definitely will be back again and again. It’s a New England seaside jewel and worth the visit!
