Exploring Mystic Country with Joules USA

Hello from Mystic, Connecticut! Today, I wanted to share some of my favorite spots in Mystic with you to sight-see and enjoy the day outdoors. The family and I enjoyed a little trip over Spring Break and I love visiting in the off season. It was a mix of sun, clouds, fog, and temps in the mid 50’s and 60’s. Perfect spring jacket weather in New England and we love Joules for coastal apparel and outerwear. It’s one of my go-to brands for the family and I am always so happy with the quality and fit.

Here’s a look at a few of our favorite stops for a day of outdoor fun in Mystic and the surrounding area…

First Stop Historic Downtown Mystic

You can’t visit Mystic without strolling the historic downtown. The river runs out to the sound and docks line each side with plenty of water fowl and water vessels to spy. Our boys have always loved boat spying here and now that they are a bit older, they still love this town and all its coastal wonder and history.

In early spring, signs of summer start to slowly emerge. The shrink-wrapped marinas and seaport start to come alive once again. You can see crews getting their vessels ready for the water and there are still some favorites on the water in all their glory.

The Mystic River Bascule Bridge takes you by foot or car to the bustling downtown full of shops, restaurants, and galleries. Built in 1920, it is a Mystic icon and always fun to watch open for boats as they pass through. It really is a marvel of engineering, especially for its time and operates with a perfect counter balance.

When we are in Mystic, we love to start our day walking along the docks. It’s fun for the kids to boat watch. Toph and I like to grab a coffee and breakfast at Sift Bakery and stroll by the water. The boys always want to stop in the Candy Shop for saltwater taffy.

Also, there are some great water views on the other side of the bridge too. You can see more docks and a great view of Mystic Seaport in the distance.

Visit the Seaport

The Mystic Seaport is a must do during your visit. Its great fun for kids and adults alike and is a living maritime museum. It’s a step back in time and a history lesson. There are lots of interactive exhibits and each shop in the village is a working shop. Skilled craftsmen are building using the period tools. You can climb aboard the great ships and get a taste of what life must have like in a New England seaport years ago.

My boys love the Joules Coast Sneakers for a day of exploring. They are the perfect canvas shoe for spring! I have the woman’s version and they are so great for the warm weather months.

Watch Hill Beaches

After visiting the Seaport, we love to spend our afternoon at the beach. There are several beaches so close to Mystic. Our favorites are just a 25 minute drive across the Rhode Island state line in Watch Hill. They are some of our favorite beaches in all of New England.

They are great for beach combing in the late winter and spring. This spring visit, we were greeted with a foggy start to our beach stroll and it was perfectly New England.

Our Joules apparel and gear was a perfect fit for a day outside exploring Mystic. We had a light rain while at the Seaport, and our rain jackets kept us dry and my ruck sack kept my camera and gear protected.

I hope you enjoyed a little peek into our outings during our visit to Mystic! We love this part of Connecticut so much. I’ll be back soon with an inside look at The Whaler’s Inn Mystic where we stayed during our trip and I’ll provide a full travel guide outlining dining, hotels, shopping, and activities soon.

Thank you to Joules USA for sponsoring this post. Joules USA is a brand I love and live my life in. Thanks for supporting the brands that support Kristy & New England.
